REVIEW BY LLOYD REES WRITER, TEACHER, LECTURER AUTHOR

Just read a lovely book. ‘Speak Scruffy! Have a Go! Learn French With Scruffy’ by Katy Unsworth.

It’s a kids’ book – it’s targeted at 3-8 year olds – and it sets out to introduce some basic French phrases that kids could try out. The idea is excellent, because Ms Unsworth recognises that children might be reluctant at first to try out the perils of a new language. Her hero Scruffy needs persuasion, but with a helping hand from his chum Whiskers he quite soon succeeds in communicating with French people. The illustrations are delightful and as the blurb claims, this picture book is an entertaining and uplifting read. I’d highly recommend.
