BOOK PLAY ACTIVITY – SCRUFFY AND WHISKERS CREATED WITH STENCILS/RUBBING PLATES

At Preschool we created both Scruffy and Whiskers by carefully drawing round animal stencils then coloring them in.  We also used stump crayons to rub on our dog and cat rubbing plates.

The children worked side by side chatting about the story and ‘having a go’ at sharing some French words they had learned from the book.  Some children went on to cut out their drawings.

All the characteristics of effective learning were evident.

It’s a great activity for:

Communication & Language e.g understanding prepositions and building vocabulary.

Physical development e.g control of mark-making tools.

Literacy e.g describing main story settings, events and principal characters.

Expressive art and design e.g using tools and techniques.

Managing feelings and behaviour e.g discussing how Whiskers helps Scruffy.

Understanding the world e.g looking at similarities and differences in the world using the book.

And much more………
